NOTE: Clients must have access to a Vehicle Loading Crane (Capacity 10 metre tonnes and above) and a suitable area for this course to be conducted at to undertake our course. A suitable office/classroom-type area will also be required.
This course aims to provide participants with the skills and knowledge required to safely operate a Vehicle loading crane with a capacity of 10 metre tonnes and above.
This course is conducted over 3 days, with two full days of learning and 1 day of Assessments.
Course Summary
This unit requires a person operating a vehicle loading crane with an MRC of 10 metre tonnes or more to:
- plan for the work/task
- Prepare for the work/task,
- perform the work/task
- Shut down and pack up the equipment.
Attendee Requirements:
All attendees will be required to complete a Theory, Calculations and Practical assessment. Proficiency in English reading and writing, and a sound knowledge of mathematics, is essential to achieve competency.
Attendees must be over the age of 18 and hold their driver’s licence to complete this course. Identification will be viewed by the assessor at the course.
Suitable attire must be worn on all course days, which includes:
- Enclosed boots
- Long Pants
- Hi-vis shirt (if you have), long-sleeved shirt.
Training and Assessment:
- This course is conducted by a qualified trainer, face-to-face, and is conducted on your site.
- The assessment tool used is nationally mandated, and includes a theory, calculations and practical assessments.
- The full training and assessment course is a 3-day course.
- Assessment-only courses can be arranged for suitable candidates.

- It is preferred that all participants undertaking this course have experience and hold a current High Risk Dogging Licence.
Course Completion
On completion of this course, you will gain skills and knowledge of all aspects of operating a vehicle loading crane with an MRC of 10 metre-tonnes or more. Attendees will be issued the following:
- An interim High Risk Vehicle Loading Crane licence, which must be lodged at a Service Tasmania outlet within 60 days for your High Risk Licence to be issued. A separate fee applies.
- Successful attendees will be issued with a Statement of Attainment for the National unit of competency TLILIC0024 Licence to operate a vehicle loading crane.
